Beaches in North Wales
In a nutshell. Award-winners all along the coast.
Our beaches have bagged quite a few beachy ‘Oscars’. Most of them have won awards – Seaside Awards or, in the case of Llandudno’s North Shore, the ultimate Blue Flag accolade.
Flying the Blue Flag
It’s Europe’s highest beach award. Llandudno’s North Shore Beach has to satisfy a demanding range of criteria that include the highest quality bathing water and safety, beach cleanliness, services, wheelchair access, dog control, first aid and so on, guaranteeing that it is one of the best in the world.
This Award identifies resort and rural beaches that are well-managed with excellent standards of cleanliness and water quality. The beaches are: Colwyn Bay/Rhos-on-Sea, Llanfairfechan, Old Colwyn (to the east of Colwyn Bay), Penmaenmawr, Pensarn and Kinmel Bay (Sandy Cove).

You’re bound to find a beach tailor-made for your mood – from the popular ‘beside the sea’ sands at Llandudno and Colwyn Bay to dreamy, more peaceful beaches like Pensarn.
And they’re not just for summer. In fact, many of our visitors prefer a bracing stroll on the beach in spring and autumn, when that salty tang really revives the spirits.
